Ashley Senior Session at Historic Rockford

Hey, I’m Katie!

Only a few days after we reached the green phase of the pandemic I received a call from Ashley’s mom. She was excited to book her daughter’s senior shoot to celebrate the senior year of her youngest child and wanted to jump in as soon as I was able to work. That being said, she needed to wait until Ashley had the chance to visit the salon and get her hair and nails done. (I think we all know what it was like during lockdown with no highlights, cuts, and manicures!) Ah life during a pandemic!

Location is so important!

Ashely was so sweet and we had a great evening exploring the grounds at Historic Rockford in Lancaster County Central Park. This is one of my go to locations for portraits, there is so much variety in landscapes and lighting. I’m so happy to be a business member of Rockford. My membership allows me shooting privileges on the grounds. This is a nice perk, making it not a super crowded place for portraits, despite it’s appeal.

Ashley is pumped for her senior year, even if she doesn’t know exactly WHAT the year is going to look like. She looked gorgeous in all three of her outfits and somehow looked cool and put together in spite of the humidity and 85 degree temps!

A surprise visitor…

I love her sweet smiles, her confidence, and all of that soft golden light, but I think what I may remember most about this session is when a large black snake decided to join us! Ah! I asked Ashley to take a seat on the lovely stone steps and her mom shrieked and said “Um! I don’t think so! There’s a snake there!”

You better believe I was on my toes for the rest of the session checking for snakes!

Senior sessions are so fun and carefree. They bring me back to the days when I was in high school and my friends and I would go out and do photoshoots with our little disposable cameras. My, how times have changed!

What is your favorite setting from Ashley’s session? From open fields, to the historic colonial home, to the barn, and to the meadow, they are all so pretty this time of year. The golden light at the end of the night is my personal favorite! Swoon!
